The Leather Puffer

As you might have read, lately, I’ve been craving a leather jacket. They are the perfect item to edge up a girly outfit. But since I’m the more easily chilled kind, warmth against the bitter cold is always one of my primary concerns. And so following the puffer trench, I discovered the leather puffer. I wasn’t even deliberately looking. I was just randomly browsing at the Intermix store and lo’ and behold, I find the leather puffer below:

I thought the concept was awesome, a cool, edgy and WARM leather jacket. The soft gray color also caught my eye. Probably because it has all the qualities of black but is not (although of course they have it in black). But then I tried it on- just for fun. It fits on very snugly (so if you’re buying them online, go one size bigger!) but also very stiffly.

I know it is probably because of the stuffing, but for a whooping $875, I expected a bit more. The ability to move to begin with. And secondly, better quality leather. I’ve come across my fair share of leather, and that was not good leather. It was stiff and felt (and looked now that I think about it) plasticky, making it look a bit cheap, which is ridiculous considering the price tag.

I walked out of the store disappointed. Maybe if they cut down the price tag by at least a 1/3. Then maybe it’ll be worth considering. Image Source: Intermix Online

Cacharel Vintage

Cach2I know I know, who’s looking at pretty Liberty print when everyone is focused on black leather and slashing leggings and jeans etc?  I will attempt to fashion digress anyway as these photos have been languishing on my memory card and I need to start clearing stuff off.  The Cacharel show in Paris last month was a 2-for-1 affair.

The first half showcased the collection that Mark Eley and Wakako Kishimoto designed, giving a new direction for Cacharel and it was filled with leanings towards school uniforms and finally, the Eley Kishimoto that we’re familiar with definitely started to shine through.  Then to celebrate the label’s 50th birthday, dozens of models came out for a second part of the show and they were clad in vintage Liberty floral print shirts and dresses and it finally ended with Cacharel founder Jean Bousequet taking a bow.

Josefina’s Window

Initially when my boyfriend told me there were GIANT knits in Doors by Jas M.B. on Ganton Street in Soho, we both assumed it was James Long AW08 collection seeing as the store is a real gem for obscure menswear (Miharayasuhiro, Petar Petrov, GOHjAS etc…) but as soon as I neared the store, I did a little yelp and went ‘YAY! It’s Josefina Lar!’.  Of course to my boyfriend, that meant absolutely nothing but as I’ve been oohing and ahhing over her AW08-9 lookbook for a while and she her colour palette and texture mix has been permanently imprinted in my head, I could not help but do a very embarrassing squeal.

Somehow, it was a little odd that her extreme lookbook images had been translated to clothes on a rack in Doors by Jas M.B.  Clothes that sadly I couldn’t afford but still, I beamed as it’s great to see her stuff in person and highly available…affirming that what I go on about doesn’t just exist in thin virtual air.

I was so eager to see whether she had come up with a SS09 collection, I emailed her to eagerly ask…sadly she isn’t but she IS going to take time out to do a CSM MA… she’s on my one to watch list for CSM MA 2010!
