Korea’s top designers unveiled their fashion forecast for spring and summer 2009 during the eight-day Seoul Fashion Week, which ended Saturday. Seoul Fashion Week was once again touted by organizers as the “evolution of Seoul becoming Asia’s representative fashion city.”

Judging from what was seen on the catwalks, women will look forward to fresh and feminine looks, with just a hint of sexiness, for spring and summer. The romantic trend continued with bold floral prints on flowing maxis and one-piece dresses. Spring and summer fashion is always colorful, and this season is no exception with a lively pink, blue, purple and yellow color palette.

Men will have to update their wardrobes with smartly cut jackets and clean sportswear. Black, white, navy, brown and beige dominated the color spectrum of men’s wear designers, as well as check prints.

The blisters on my feet can testify that I did a lot of walking (I was wearing flats but the inevitable rubbing happened…).  I did the Polk Street strip, the Haight Street trek, the Valencia/Mission (I’m saving Thrift Town for tomorrow though…) patch and the Hayes Valley gander…all in one day… but the shopping muse had deserted me and left me high and dry and since jet lag is still plaguing my head, I just wasn’t in the correct mode for shopping (I must do a shopping mode post soon as I’ve found that a certain frame of mind is needed for bountiful shopping trips…).

Still, the cut back challenge remains and I could not let myself down so I persevered.  At the Community Thrift place on Valencia, I riffled like a crazy woman and I do recall lightly shoving a middle-aged lady with my bag by accident due to all the heavy rifling…

In the end I came out with four pieces for UNDER twenty bucks, each coming in at $3-6 each and including tax came to a tidy $20.10. Ever so slightly over but I’m not going to lose sleep over it.  Vintage wasn’t the key theme as thrift stores, like charity shops are secondhand as opposed to VINTAGE.

However, I tried to evoke some sort of 70s’ YSL-esque vibe with bright jewel tones in the form of a fuschia silk t-shirt with shoulder pads, Calvin Klein coral silk skirt (possibly FAKE CK I might add…), sheer chiffon layered aqua/black wrap skirt and a textured turquoise lace waist coat.  With some tucking, tying and draping, and along with the $20 Ferragamo shoes, I think despite the clashyness (trashy?) of it all, I’m liking the effect of the colours together.

For a total of $40, it’s not too bad an effort despite going over budget.  I feel a little deflated like in Changing Rooms, when the designers have gone grossly over budget but at least I haven’t done a Lawrence Llewelyn Bowen checkerboard disaster (a painful episode of Changing Rooms I might add) either so I’m not too fussed.

It’s the end of October, it’s nearly Halloween time and it’s that time of the year for Susie to jet off to some random place in America…. first it was Texas, then Miami and now it’s….actually not so random…. San Francisco, the true birthplace of the Arts of Fashion event which I will be attending for the third year in a row. 

I was supposed to teach a masterclass but since they found out I have nothing useful to teach, I’m merely there along for the ride, poking cameras/recording devices in people’s faces and taking in the atmosphere of it all.

There’s a stonking list of things going on….fashion showcases by Cathy Pill, Isabelle Steger (Hyeres 2008 contestant), Sandrina Fasoli and my friends Douglas Reker and Carlos Santiago.  Sandra Backlund is giving a masterclass in knitting so hopefully I will found out how the hell she produces those massive amazing knits of her’s. 

The people from last year are back; Natalia Brilli (whose SS09 collection is stonkingly good….) will be teaching bag making, Tony Delcampe and Laurent Edmond (first creative assistant to Maison Martin Margiela) will be getting people to make rainbow warrior creations and the OWN boys are helping people creating odd kimonos.  All in a city which I’ve only visited once and know very little about other than it’s supposedly the most ‘European’ of American cities. 

I’ll be hitting up ex-SF-er The Coveted for tips and I know the obvious places such as Modern Appealing Clothing and Acrimony but of course as per the past two years; THE MORE TIPS THE MERRIER!  I’m there for almost a week and in a city where public transport is good, I won’t have to rely on begging people for lifts and will therefore be able to get around and really explore.  This clueless Brit doesn’t ask for much so any help would be most appreciated…. and of course in return, I’ll be reporting indepth on what San Francisco has to offer.

With the city witnessing two fashion weeks within the span of eight days, the national Capital is certainly in vogue. So while the Delhi Fashion Week spearheaded by Sumeet Nair kickstarted on Tuesday, Fashion Design Council of India’s (FDCI) Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week opens just a day later on Wednesday.

“I don’t think it makes sense to host a new event while one is going on, just for business benefits,” says fashion designer Rohit Gandhi.”You don’t become a fashion destination by being cautious, by thinking of the consequences,” Sumeet Nair says, however.And both camps claim to have a steady inflow of sponsors and buyers inspite of the bleak world economic scenario.
