How To Pull A Fashion Boy

September 17th, 2008 by ChicHERE | No Comments | Filed in Fashion News

How To Pull A Fashion BoyMy predilection for fashion boys - plus the fact I share the same taste in men with Daisy Lowe - is the reason I’m still single, but with Paul Costelloe kicking off London Fashion Week in a matter of minutes at the Natural History Museum, I have seven days to indulge my guiltiest and most self-destructive pleasure.

(Actually make that six because every self-respecting fashionista knows that Fashion Week doesn’t really last a week.)

So it came as no surprise to find a fabulous article called How Do You Pull A Straight Boy At A Fashion Party? by Gemma Soames from the Times Online left on my desk by a well-meaning colleague a couple of seasons ago along with a note saying “Thought you might appreciate this!”

Among Gemma’s essential tips are: “Don’t look like a fashion girl” (Good plan…if you want to pull a civilian. Why hide your couture at a fashion party?) “Head for the smoking area” (if you want to pull a smoker…no thanks), and “If in doubt, head for the photographers” (if you’re fine about your future boyfriend being surrounded models for a living.)

Bring Back Civility

September 10th, 2008 by ChicHERE | No Comments | Filed in Styling Tips

I was raised by two manner-obsessed parents and while I may have resented the litany of do’s and don’ts growing up, they’ve left an indelible mark and for this I am immensely grateful (Merci Maman! Merci Papa!). Unfortunately, it sometimes seems to me that society in general has given up on civility. On the streets, on public transportation but also in stores and restaurants, it seems that manners are considered optional or worse yet, obsolete. I couldn’t disagree more! This breakdown in civility goes far beyond ‘please, ‘thank you’ and ‘pardon me’. It manifests itself in inappropriate attire in public, frequent misunderstandings on what is expected and impoverished social interactions in general. I was therefore elated when I stumbled across a new blog dedicated to the subject: SocialPrimer.com. It’s well-written, elegant and highly relevant! If you’re like me and believe manners and civility are important elements of style and elegance, you’ll love this blog too.

Fits of jeans styles

May 3rd, 2008 by ChicHERE | No Comments | Filed in Styling Tips

Fits of jeans stylesFits of jeans are determined by current styles, sex, and by the manufacturer. Here are some of the fits produced for jeans:

Ankle jeans, Baggy jeans, Bell bottom/Flares, Bootcut, Boy cut or Boyfriend (for women), Carpenter jeans, Classic, Hip-huggers, Loose jeans, “Mom” jeans, Original jeans, Overall, Phat pants, Relaxed Fit, Saggy, Skinny jeans, Slinkies, Straight jeans, Wide leg, Jorts (Jean shorts).

Rises in jeans (the distance from the crotch to the waistband) range from high-waisted to superlow-rise. Jeans for men usually have a longer rise and zipper, whereas women have a shorter rise and zipper, although exceptions do exist.
