Milan Spring Summer 2009: Burberry Prorsum

September 26th, 2008 by ChicHERE | No Comments | Filed in Fashion News

I love Christopher Bailey. He revamped the Burberry checks and made them cool again and he’s just looks like such a cutie! But even that didn’t stop me from being disappointed in his latest collection. It was a depressing show.

The models with their long trench coats and floppy hats almost look like those creepy nudists on the streets. The dreary colors didn’t help (I thought it was supposed to be a spring/summer collection?). (more…)

Phoebe Philo Joins Celine: It’s Official!

September 13th, 2008 by ChicHERE | No Comments | Filed in Brand Stories

The ink on the contract is not quite dry but the news is official nonetheless! Phoebe Philo is the new creative director of French fashion house Celine (LVMH). She will join the French fashion brand this coming October with her first collection to be for the Fall/Winter 2009 season. Rumors regarding Philo’s discussions with LVMH had been swirling since March 2008 and intensified this past July. The Central Saint Martins graduate and former creative director of Chloe (Groupe Richemont) shocked the fashion world in 2006 when she left her post as creative director to take time off with her then-infant daughter. Philo was replaced by Paulo Melim Andersson, who was in turn replaced by Hannah MacGibbon in early 2008.

The Celine brand was founded in 1945 by Celine Viplana as a children’s shoe business. The business eventually grew into women’s shoes and accessories in 1963 but it wasn’t until the 1970’s that Viplana introduced a line of women’s “couture sportswear” which she described as “fashion for everyone.” The collection focused on laid back separates such as shirts, trousers and trench coats. The brand continued to evolve and in 1988, Peggy Huyn-Kihn was named creative director. Michael Kors joined the brand in 1997 as designer eventually becoming creative director in 1999. He left in 2003 to concentrate on his own eponymous brand and was replaced by Italian designer Roberto Menichetti. Menichetti left shortly thereafter and was replaced by Croatian-born, Italian-trained Ivana Omazic (Romeo Gigli, Prada, Jil Sander, and Miu Miu). wishes you the very best of luck Ms. Philo - it’s lovely to have you back!

The Puffer Trench

September 9th, 2008 by ChicHERE | No Comments | Filed in Fashion News

Burberry Puffer TrenchEvery year when fall comes around, I am shocked by how cold it is. Summer and time does a good job of fading away memories of the bitter cold and biting wind. Walking around, people are pulling out their trench coats against the cold. But is that enough to keep us warm? It IS only made out of a layer of cloth (or two, counting layers) after all. I own one and I don’t find it very warm at all. Maybe I’m just more easily chilled than others, but I’m thinking that something a bit more substantial is called for. Luckily for me, Burberry knew just what I was thinking.

I am loving Burberry’s latest puffer trench coat. Lined lightly with down, it is most definitely warm enough for fall. Unlike other puff jackets however, it still has SHAPE. A very slimming and flattering trench coat shape at that. What more can you want? It will totally last you all the way through fall (plus or minus some layers) and maybe even winter (probably not for snow though, for snow you need the heavy duty stuff)!
